Description

Why we recommend Tao in Chicago

Tao sits on the Chicago dining map for a specific reason — Midwest power-dining institution — steakhouse, chef-driven, or Michelin-recognized — and it comes up on our concierge calls often enough that it earned a proper page on the site. Outside of Las Vegas, MyRSVP does not hold restaurant inventory; this write-up is meant to give you enough context to reserve confidently with the restaurant directly, then pair the night with a nightclub or pool booking through us if the rest of the trip calls for it. Think of it as a curator’s recommendation rather than a reservation funnel.

What to expect in the room and on the menu

The 34,000-square-foot space, housed in a historic 1892 River North building, splits into two distinct experiences. Upstairs, the main dining room features velvet banquettes and ambient lighting beneath a towering 16-foot Quan Yin statue and intricate Asian artwork—designed for leisurely Pan-Asian dining under Executive Chef Andrew Graves’s direction. The lower level transitions into a 7,000-square-foot nightclub anchored by a massive Japanese bell, where top DJs energize the room after dinner service. The menu balances showstopper shareable plates—Peking Duck ($98), Spicy Tuna Tartare on Crispy Rice ($22), Miso-Glazed Chilean Sea Bass ($49)—with sushi and teppanyaki options. Sunday Brunch ($65 per person) draws crowds with dim sum and a live sushi bar. TAO Group Hospitality’s theatrical approach means you’re paying for ambiance and precision service alongside food; tables fill fast during peak hours, particularly weekends. The River North location and multi-level design make it equally suited to business dinners, date nights, or celebrations where you want visible grandeur and pulsing energy in one venue.

Reservations — how to book Tao

A quick note on how to use this page: Tao sits on our curated Chicago dining shortlist, but MyRSVP doesn’t hold restaurant inventory here — that concierge service is Las Vegas-only. For the reservation, book direct with the venue on whichever channel they use (their own site, OpenTable, Resy, SevenRooms, or phone). For a nightclub, pool day, or beach club layered into the same Chicago trip, that is the part where MyRSVP picks up — submit the form on the relevant venue page and we will coordinate that side of the evening with your dinner reservation as the anchor point.

Hours, dress, and planning windows

Here is the practical layer for Tao — the details you need before booking. Hours of operation: Nightclub: Thu–Sat from 10:00 PM until 3–4 AM (closed Sun–Wed for club). Asian Bistro: Tue–Thu 5:00–10:00 PM, Fri–Sat 5:00–11:00 PM, Sun 10:30 AM–3:00 PM (brunch) and 5:00–10:00 PM. Closed Monday. Dress code: Smart casual-elegant. No shorts, baseball caps, athletic wear, tank tops, exposed chains, flip-flops, large bags, backpacks or professional cameras. Reservations tighten around Lollapalooza, Bears, Bulls, Cubs, Sox, and Blackhawks game nights; on those weekends, plan to book two to six weeks out depending on the seating type, and ask about chef’s counter, bar dining or private-dining allocations if the main reservation book reads fully booked.

How MyRSVP helps with the rest of your Chicago trip

Booking Tao for your Chicago trip. The dinner reservation itself runs through the restaurant; MyRSVP’s concierge service in Chicago specializes in nightclub and pool-club bookings rather than dining rooms. Dinner reservations are direct with Tao. For the nightclub, pool day or beach club you’re planning around the meal, submit the MyRSVP form on the relevant venue page and a concierge assigned to that venue will be in touch with pricing, placement and the best area for your group.
