Michelin-starred West Loop restaurant in a converted 19th-century print shop
Sepia occupies a converted 19th-century print shop on North Jefferson Street, a Michelin-starred kitchen in Chicago's West Loop. Executive Chef Kyle Cottle, who spent nearly six years as the restaurant's Chef de Cuisine, runs it on a seasonal, ingredient-driven approach guided by Midwestern produce and local growers.
The dining room keeps the building's original wooden walls and exposed brick and softens them with chandeliers and vintage decor. Private Dining by Sepia hosts groups of 12 to 60 in a dedicated event space, and a patio extends the warm season.
The menu moves with the seasons. The four-course prix fixe ($125) offers a choice at every course, recently including hiramasa crudo with tomato dashi, Hokkaido scallop and sea urchin with sweet corn, glazed beef short rib with snow crab, and butter-poached halibut with corn pudding. The eight-course tasting menu ($195) is the chef's-choice option, finishing with desserts from Pastry Chef Melissa Santiago. Wine pairings come from Wine Director Jake Bennie, and the Sepia Old Fashioned, a rotating house version, leads the cocktail list.
Seatings run Monday through Thursday 5 to 9 and Friday and Saturday 5 to 10, closed Sunday. Allow about two to two and a half hours for the prix fixe and up to three for the tasting menu. Reservations are released on a rolling basis about two months in advance.
