River North Italian restaurant with daily house-made pasta, open since 2012
RPM Italian opened in River North in 2012 and describes itself as modern in approach and Italian in spirit, with a contemporary menu, daily house-made pastas and dishes meant to be shared. It is the sister restaurant to RPM Steak and RPM Seafood, and the draw is house-made pasta served in a space built for being seen.
Private dining spaces are set in tones of black, white and gray. The Boardroom seats 16 for an intimate dinner, The Stage seats 40, and the entire restaurant can host up to 300 guests for a reception.
The kitchen makes more than a dozen pastas daily with flour imported from Italy. Mama DePandi's Bucatini, pomodoro with Genovese basil, sits alongside Short Rib Bolognese with pappardelle, Spicy Dungeness Crab with squid ink spaghetti and Maine Lobster Ravioli. Mediterranean Branzino and a dry-aged Bistecca Fiorentina for two to four anchor the mains, sides like Crispy Brussels Sprouts fill out the table, and Bomboloni, Italian brioche donuts with lemon cream, close it. The wine list runs deep into Barolo, Brunello and the wines of Angelo Gaja, and lighter drinkers reach for the RPM Spritz, Giuliana Prosecco with vodka, strawberry and lemon.
The dining room opens at 4 pm Sunday through Thursday, closing at 9 on Sunday and 9:30 Monday through Thursday, and at 3 pm on Friday and Saturday, running until 10:30.
