Hoa Tuc · Restaurant · Saigon

Vietnamese cooking in the courtyard of the old opium refinery.
Hoa Tuc sits in the courtyard of the former opium refinery at 74/7 Hai Ba Trung in District 1, a nineteenth-century colonial complex now given over to restaurants and bars, including The Refinery a few steps across the same courtyard. The name means opium flower, a direct reference to what the building was. Hoa Tuc carries a Michelin Guide Vietnam Selected listing for 2026.
The kitchen is contemporary Vietnamese, lighter and more refined than home cooking without moving into tasting-menu territory. It also runs a cooking school with market visits and hands-on instruction, booked separately from the restaurant and worth asking about at the same time as a table.
The courtyard is the room to book. Tables sit under trees in a walled space set well back from Hai Ba Trung, so the street traffic disappears, unusual this close to the center of the city. The colonial-era architecture is kept largely intact, with the al fresco dining area carrying an early twentieth-century feel and the interior rooms built out in the same colonial style.
