Elgin opened on Mac Dinh Chi in Dakao Ward in 2022, named for the street in Hong Kong where its founders met - a stretch that runs from mom-and-pop eateries to serious dining rooms, and the reference point for a kitchen that moves between cuisines without settling in one. It has since been selected by the MICHELIN Guide.
The room is dark green wall tile and orange banquette under soft light, set over two levels. The upstairs dining hall seats up to 40, or holds 80 standing for canapes; the downstairs kitchen bar takes up to 30 standing for canapes and welcome drinks. Either can be taken privately, and the kitchen also caters off site.
Plates are Asian-inspired and built for sharing, changing regularly and leaning on local produce alongside imported ingredients: chutoro toast, Peking duck croquettes, lamb gnocchi sugo, half chicken done as ayam taliwang, nduja XO crab fried rice, Aquna Murray cod fillet. The wine program is deliberately curious, pushing toward less familiar grapes, styles and countries, and the service is run bar-style - warm, proper, not stuffy.
