The Refinery shares the 74 Hai Ba Trung courtyard with Hoa Tuc, in a complex built originally as an opium refinery, and it runs as a French bistro and wine bar built in the Paris tradition: tiled floors, bentwood chairs, a blackboard menu, and black-and-white photographs of old Saigon on the walls.
The terrace tables under the courtyard trees are the ones to ask for. The interior is comfortable, but the courtyard is why the complex is worth choosing over a street-front room, and it is where the restaurant's history as a converted colonial building shows most clearly.
