Cuc Gach Quan occupies a restored old house on Dang Tat in Tan Dinh, north of the District 1 core, and it has been one of the city's most-loved rooms for years. The building is the draw as much as the food: timber, tile, courtyards and small rooms instead of one open dining floor, with mismatched furniture throughout.
The cooking is Vietnamese home food: the dishes a family would actually cook, made carefully and served in generous shared portions. Ordering is communal, which suits a table of four to eight better than a table of two.
