Michelin Selected French cooking in an An Khanh villa in Saigon, with a pool
La Villa occupies a French villa on Ngo Quang Huy in An Khanh, with a garden and pool that the dining terrace looks over, and holds a MICHELIN Guide Selected listing. Chef Thierry Mounon and his wife Tina Trang Pham opened the restaurant in 2010, after Mounon's career took him from a Michelin-starred kitchen in Avignon under chef Christian Etienne in 2003 through a Michelin-starred restaurant in London, then to Vietnam in 2008 for two years at a five-star hotel.
The kitchen cooks neo-classic French food, built on traditional technique with contemporary ideas layered on top. The a la carte runs from Irish crab with Oscietre caviar and Hokkaido scallop carpaccio with duck foie gras to beef tartare with caviar, seared Hokkaido scallops with black truffle, Brittany blue lobster riso and Alaskan black cod in herb butter.
The setting is the reason to choose it over the city's other French rooms: dining beside the pool in the garden, away from the traffic of District 1. The interior room is furnished with artwork, velvet curtains and a chandelier for guests who prefer to dine inside, but the terrace tables are what get booked.
Lunch runs Thursday through Sunday from 11:45 AM to 4 PM, with last seating at 1 PM, and dinner runs Tuesday through Sunday from 6 PM, with last seating at 9 PM. La Villa is closed Mondays. Reservations run through the booking form on its own site, by phone or by email; ask for a garden or poolside table, since the two rooms make for a different evening.
