A hidden garden terrace and a menu that changes every two weeks
Alambique is El Poblado's worst-kept secret - a laboratorio, cocina and bar hidden up an unmarked gray door above an art gallery on Calle 10. Push through and you land on a garden terrace of reclaimed wood, hanging plants and an open kitchen, a vintage-bohemian living room that feels nothing like the street below.
Chef Juan Jose Piedrahita treats the menu like a lab, rewriting it roughly every two weeks, so the best approach is to trust the kitchen instead of chasing one specific dish. The technique is modern, but the flavors stay rooted in traditional Colombian cooking. Regulars come back for the Torta de Chocolo y Tres Cerdos, a sweet-corn cake layered with caramelized pork belly, roast pig and shredded ribs under a blend of cheeses, and the Canasta de Bunuelos, crispy cheese fritters filled with shrimp cocktail and served with a shot of coconut lemonade and rum.
It reads relaxed but stylish, and it draws a crowd that knows the city - the kind of place a local takes you to prove Medellin dining is more than its tasting temples. The hidden entrance and garden setting make it a genuine find.
Hours run from midday to late, with the kitchen closing around a quarter to ten most nights, and it works well for both a long lunch and a leisurely dinner. Alambique books directly through the link below.
