Mal de Ojo is the most booked rooftop in Medellin, and the numbers are not close. It sits above Calle 8 in El Poblado under a slatted timber roof, with conical pendant lamps over a long service bar, banana plants along the edge, and the hillside opening up past the tables.
The kitchen leans Mexican without being a taqueria. Fire and smoke run through most of the menu, the mezcal and tequila list is the deepest on any rooftop in the city, and the cocktails are the reason a lot of people come before they ever look at the food.
The important thing to know is the schedule. This is an evening room and it does not open for lunch. Doors are at 6pm most nights and 5pm Thursday through Saturday, when service runs to 1am and the room turns over from dinner into something closer to a party. Sunday through Wednesday it closes at midnight and stays a restaurant the whole night.
