Dos Santos Cantina sits on Carrera 33 in El Poblado and keeps later hours than most of the neighbourhood. The format is a cantina rather than a quiet dining room: tequila and mezcal along the back wall, live music on the calendar, and a room that stays full well past midnight.
The cooking is Mexican and it does the things a cantina should do well. Tacos arrive properly garnished rather than as an afterthought, steak comes out on a hot plancha with a molcajete of salsa beside it, and several plates land under dry ice. The theatre is real, and the food underneath holds up.
