Run by the Semeli Group, Bao's sits at the premium end of the island's bar scene. Prime sunset tables carry a minimum spend and seats on the ledge are limited, so the sunset slot is the one to plan around rather than leave to chance. Later in the night the room loosens into something closer to a party, champagne moving fast across the bar.
It is less a place for a quiet drink than a place to mark the turn of the evening: the town glowing behind Little Venice, the sea going gold in front of it, and the whole terrace turned toward the horizon. For that reason it draws a steady crossover crowd of couples, groups and people working their way along the Little Venice waterfront.
