La Maison de Katrin has been feeding Mykonos Town since 1971. It sits at Panachrantou 23, hidden down one of the narrow lanes of the old quarter and easy to walk past until you know where to look. The Giziotis family opened it and named it after Katerina, the mother of the house, and looking after guests is still a family affair.
The cooking marries traditional Greek recipes with French gourmet cooking, and the menu reads exactly that way. Moussaka, stuffed zucchini flowers and grape leaves in egg-lemon sauce sit beside coq au vin, sole meuniere and a chateaubriand for two, with lobster linguine and the fish of the day for those who want the sea. Dessert runs to tarte tatin, a millefeuille with Aegina pistachio and a creme brulee with cherries.
The house calls itself a French bistro in love with the Cyclades: atmospheric, chic and carefully kept, with only a handful of tables that are much sought after. A long wine list covers the meal, and the bar will close the night with a classic cocktail or one of its own suggestions.
Seatings run every night from 7 PM, with the last at 11:30 PM, and with so few tables it pays to book ahead.
