Rooftop Garden Bar · Saigon
The Rex Hotel's fifth-floor terrace, where the war correspondents drank.
The Rooftop Garden Bar at the Rex Hotel is the most historically loaded terrace in Saigon. It sits on the fifth floor at the corner of Nguyen Hue and Le Loi, and during the war it was where foreign correspondents gathered for the daily military briefings they nicknamed the Five O'Clock Follies.
Newsweek named it one of Southeast Asia's best bars in 1996, and it has appeared in Patricia Schultz's travel writing since. It is a planted garden terrace, not a glass-and-steel sky bar, and its low-rise, green setting has stayed largely the same; it has not been redesigned into something more modern.
The terrace sits below the surrounding towers, so the view runs along the street and the Nguyen Hue walking boulevard instead of the skyline - a different proposition from the newer sky bars, and the reason to come.
Service includes cocktails, beer and a short menu, with a Five O'Clock Follies happy hour from 17:00 to 20:00. This works best early in the evening, pairing naturally with the Opera House and a walk down Dong Khoi, not as a late-night stop. For anyone interested in the city's history over its skyline, it is the rooftop to start with. Tell us your date and party size, and our Saigon partner is here to help with the reservation.

Frequently asked about Rooftop Garden Bar

How much is a table at Rooftop Garden Bar?
A table at Rooftop Garden Bar depends on the night (weekends and event dates price highest), your group size, and where the table sits relative to the DJ booth and dance floor. Rather than a price that changes weekly, MyRSVP quotes your exact minimum spend in writing when confirming, so you know the cost before you arrive.
What is the dress code at Rooftop Garden Bar?
Rooftop Garden Bar keeps an upscale nightlife dress code: stylish, dressed-up attire. Avoid athletic wear, gym shoes, and overly casual looks. Your host manages the door with your table, and we confirm the current policy with your booking.
