El Hefe is a party bar on Saddlebag Trail in Old Town Scottsdale's Entertainment District, open since 2010 and steps from the district's other clubs. It starts the evening as a bar with a Mexican-inspired kitchen and turns into a high-energy nightclub once the sun goes down and the DJs take over.
The menu runs to green chili birria tacos with spicy consomme, Hefe Prerolls (rolled chicken tacos with hot Cheetos dust and jalapeno ranch), a Mexican pizza, Trippy Dippy chips with white cheddar queso, guacamole and salsa, wings, chicken tenders and churro bites. The bar leans on margaritas and tequila cocktails, and happy hour brings discounted drinks.
Later the room fills for the DJs, and VIP tables come with a private area, premium spirits and mixers, bottle presentations and a dedicated host. The WM Phoenix Open, Spring Training, spring break and holiday weekends are the busiest stretches. There is usually no cover, though one can apply for special events and holiday weekends. Hours are Tuesday and Wednesday 8 pm to 2 am, Thursday 6 pm to 2 am, Friday 5 pm to 2 am, Saturday 4 pm to 2 am and Sunday 4 pm to midnight, closed Monday. Guests must be 21, and upscale attire is expected; athletic wear, baggy clothing, flip-flops and work boots may not be allowed.
