Buck & Rider is North Scottsdale's answer to the classic coastal seafood house, set in The Shops at Chauncey Ranch, where the freshest catch is the whole point. The kitchen flies seafood in daily from around the world, routed through Sky Harbor on shipments from multiple airlines each week, and it lands on a raw bar whose card is time-stamped every day: oysters, king crab, lobster, and ceviche from the East, West, and Gulf coasts.
This is the North Scottsdale sibling to the original Camelback location in Phoenix, and at more than 10,000 square feet the extra room shows. There is a sushi bar alongside the raw bar, three private dining rooms, and two patios. One of them is The Fire Pits, where Adirondack chairs circle a massive stone fire pit. The building was designed by Phoenix architect Cathy Hayes.
Regulars come for the Baja shrimp ceviche, the tuna crispy rice, and the smoked trout dip, then move on to the day's fish selections and king crab, with New Orleans shrimp and grits at brunch. Buck & Rider is not only a fish house, though: the B&R Reserve beef program brings Black Angus steaks to the same table, an easy pick for a group that cannot agree on surf or turf.
The daily happy hour from 3 to 7 pm brings signature cocktails and $2.50 raw oysters, and weekend brunch rounds out the week. The vibe is polished but unfussy, the kind of room where a business dinner, a date, and a birthday table can all coexist without friction.
