Brentwood steakhouse on San Vicente with a glass-walled terrace and a deep global wagyu list.
Baltaire is the Brentwood steakhouse that opened on San Vicente Boulevard in March 2015, from the owners of the Coral Tree Cafe next door, with Travis Strickland from the Chicago steakhouses as executive chef. The restaurant calls itself a contemporary room with classic genes: prime beef and a deep wagyu list on one side, a raw bar and a seafood-heavy opening section on the other.
The main dining room is light and airy, drawn in mid-century modern lines, and its floor-to-ceiling glass doors fold open onto a terrace with an outdoor fireplace and a retractable roof. An adjoining lounge and cocktail bar carry fireplaces of their own, and a 3,000-bottle wine cellar sits beside the private dining room.
The 44-ounce tomahawk anchors the prime steak list, and the Global Wagyu Tasting sets Snake River Farms, Westholme and Miyazaki beef side by side. Ahead of the beef come the #1 ahi tuna poke with yuzu, macadamia and taro root chips, prime steak tartare of filet, and charred Spanish octopus with pepperonata and salsa verde.
Lunch runs Monday through Friday from 11:30 AM, brunch takes Saturday and Sunday mornings, and dinner starts at 5:30 PM nightly, running to 9 PM on Sunday and Monday, 9:30 PM Tuesday through Thursday and 10 PM on Friday and Saturday. The Sequoia Room seats 42 for a private dinner and divides into the Cedar Room at 25 and the Juniper Room at 16, the terrace seats up to 100, and the restaurant can be taken in full.
