Casa Madera sits at 8440 Sunset Boulevard, on the Sunset Strip inside The Valorian Los Angeles, the hotel formerly known as the Mondrian. The sister concept to Toca Madera, it trades earth and fire for light and air, in a Mayan Riviera-inspired space by Monochrome Concept that spreads across 8,000 square feet.
The centerpiece is a lush open-air patio under a retractable roof, where flowing linens, teak and tzalam wood and wicker-filtered light give it the feel of a breezy coastal retreat. Evenings bring local and international DJs alongside performance artists and live musicians, and Sunday brunch, from 11am to 3pm, keeps the same celebratory energy.
The kitchen puts coastal Mexican seafood first, with a steak program behind it. From the raw bar come a ceviche of shrimp, hamachi and striped bass in passion fruit leche de tigre and an aguachile verde with wild shrimp, and the Black Truffle Burrata arrives with honeycomb and cilantro-garlic tortillas. Larger plates include a flaming salt-baked branzino, Dover sole with lemon caper beurre blanc, a Mariscos Paella with king crab rice and lobster, and the 32-ounce Casa Tomahawk of Tasmanian wagyu.
A reserve list of tequilas, mezcals and wines backs cocktails made with fresh organic fruit, such as the Jungle Nectar and Emerald Tide. Happy hour runs Monday to Thursday, 5:30 to 7pm, at the bar. Business casual attire is required, and guests under 16 are not seated on the patio at dinner or in the dining room after 7pm.
