Bavel occupies a converted brick warehouse on Mateo Street, an Arts District building
Bavel occupies a converted brick warehouse on Mateo Street, an Arts District building that still shows its industrial bones under something Ori Menashe and Genevieve Gergis have made entirely their own.
Sawtooth skylights run across the roof, thirty-foot trailing vines cascade from a central planter raceway, and a glassed wood-fired oven throws amber light over brass-and-leather banquettes. By evening the greenery catches the backlighting and casts shadows on the white brick that read like Moroccan latticework. It is a considered room that holds its concept without overexplaining it, and a distinct restaurant from Bestia around the corner.
Menashe runs the savory kitchen with a palate shaped by the Middle East, Persian technique, Levantine spice, and North African low-and-slow braising,
Bavel takes reservations through OpenTable. This MyRSVP guide covers the room, what it is known for and when to go in Los Angeles; use the booking link on this page to reserve direct.
