LA Auto Show 2026: ten days downtown, and where to eat around it
The Los Angeles Auto Show runs November 20 to 29, 2026 at the Los Angeles Convention Center, with press and industry days the week before. Ten public days over Thanksgiving week, in a part of the city that most visitors to Los Angeles never otherwise spend time in.
That last part is the useful bit. The Convention Center sits in South Park, downtown, and the dining within walking distance of it is a different city from the West Hollywood and Beverly Hills rooms that dominate most LA guides. If you are here for the show, downtown is where you should be eating.
Downtown, within reach of the Convention Center
71above is the obvious one and worth doing properly. Seventy-one floors up the US Bank Tower, with a dining room that takes the food as seriously as the view, and it is a ten-minute ride from the show floor.
Perch is the rooftop alternative: French bistro cooking across two levels with fire pits and a view over the Historic Core. Less formal than 71above, more atmosphere, and considerably easier to book on short notice.
For the nights the show runs late, the Arts District is a short ride east and holds the two best restaurants downtown. Bestia remains the hardest table in the neighborhood, and Bavel from the same team is its equal on Middle Eastern cooking. Both need real lead time, and Thanksgiving week does not make it easier.
The Thanksgiving week problem
This is the planning issue nobody flags in advance. The show runs straight through Thanksgiving, which falls on Thursday, November 26 in 2026.
What that means in practice:
- Many restaurants close on Thanksgiving Day itself, and a large share of the rest run a fixed holiday menu rather than their normal service.
- The Wednesday night before is one of the busiest restaurant nights of the American year, everywhere, including Los Angeles.
- The weekend after is quiet, and it is the best window of the ten days for a good table.
If your visit is flexible, target the show's opening weekend of November 20 to 22, or the closing stretch from November 27. Avoid building a dinner plan around the 25th or 26th.
What the show actually is
Worth calibrating if you have not been. The LA Auto Show is one of the largest consumer auto shows in North America and it is genuinely a consumer show, not a trade event. The press and industry days run the week before the public opening; by the time the doors open on November 20 the floor belongs to the public.
It also skews heavily toward electric and concept vehicles in a way that reflects the California market, which makes it a different show from Detroit or Frankfurt. Plan for a full day on the floor rather than a couple of hours, and plan the dinner accordingly: you will be tired, and you will not want to drive across the city.
If you want the rest of Los Angeles
Nobody comes to Los Angeles and stays downtown the entire time.
Catch LA and Delilah in West Hollywood are the two rooms that carry the city's reputation, Spago Beverly Hills is the institution, and Nobu Los Angeles is the reliable one. Cara Cara is the newer room worth knowing.
Nobu Malibu on the Pacific Coast Highway is the daytime trip, and November is a genuinely good month for it: clear air, empty highway, and a lunch that runs into the afternoon.

Exchange LA is the large-format club closest to the Convention Center and the most convenient late option downtown. Avalon in Hollywood is the historic room, and Hyde Sunset, Warwick, and Poppy are the West Hollywood set.
How to plan it
- Eat downtown on show days. Crossing Los Angeles twice in a day to eat in Beverly Hills is a bad trade.
- Work around Thanksgiving, not into it. The 25th and 26th are the two nights to avoid.
- The closing weekend is the calm one. Better tables, thinner crowds on the show floor.
- Book the Arts District early. Bestia and Bavel do not open up at short notice in any week.
