Girl & the Goat LA opened in summer 2021 at 555 Mateo St in Downtown Los Angeles, the West Coast counterpart to chef Stephanie Izard's Chicago flagship. Izard, the first woman to win Top Chef and a James Beard Award winner, built the menu around California produce and the long local growing season while keeping the global influence and bold flavors of the original.
The plates are made for sharing. Sticky glazed pork shank with Weiser melon salad, hoisin mayo and lettuce cups ($48), lamb curry with masa chips and radish ($42), grilled kalbi-style short ribs with perilla vinaigrette ($40) and pork belly noodles ($36) anchor the table, with sauteed green beans in fish sauce vinaigrette and cashews on the side. Goat empanadas and goat liver mousse with crumpets keep the namesake on the menu, mango sticky rice closes things out, and separate vegan and gluten-free menus are available.
The room reaches outdoors. The King's Table sits beside the kitchen, a greenhouse on the terrace seats 28 for private dinners, and the patio, surrounded by greenery and twinkle lights, seats 30 to 40. Cocktails lean on fresh ingredients, like the Farmer's Market Margarita with rhubarb tequila and strawberry horseradish root.
Dinner starts at 5pm nightly and runs until 9:30pm Sunday through Tuesday and 10pm Wednesday through Saturday. Weekend brunch is served Saturday and Sunday from 10am to 2pm.
