Chef Charleen Badman's vegetable-forward cooking and Arizona wines in Old Town's Craftsman Court
FnB is the quiet heavyweight of Old Town Scottsdale, the kind of room regulars guard and out-of-towners hunt down on purpose. Chef Charleen Badman and beverage director Pavle Milic opened it in 2009, tucked inside the historic Craftsman Court off 5th Avenue. Nothing here is showy, and that is the point. The focus lands on the plate and in the glass.
Badman is the reason to book. In 2019 the James Beard Foundation named her Best Chef: Southwest. She earned the nickname the veggie whisperer for coaxing the best flavor out of locally grown vegetables, which lead the menu without making it vegetarian. The kitchen cooks to what Arizona farmers are bringing in, so the menu changes with the seasons and sometimes week to week, with meat and seafood rounding out richly flavored, globally accented plates.
The wine program is the other half of the story. Milic built an all-Arizona wine list from the start and still champions the state's winemakers, pouring them alongside his own boutique Los Milics label, made with Dos Cabezas Wineworks. A Plan B list covers favorites from beyond Arizona, and the bar's rotating monthly lists, paired with small plates called FnBites, make it a destination for anyone who wants to drink locally and well.
Dinner is full service from 5 PM to 10 PM, Tuesday through Saturday. This is Scottsdale dining at its most serious and least stuffy, a short walk from the center of Old Town.
