Gio Osso's intimate Mediterranean room in Old Town Scottsdale
Virtu Honest Craft is a chef-driven restaurant in Old Town Scottsdale, and more than a decade on the focus is still the cooking. Chef and owner Gio Osso opened Virtu in 2013 inside the boutique Bespoke Inn on Marshall Way, and the room reads exactly like that pedigree: small, warm, and grown-up, with a heated patio shaded by trees that regulars call the best seat in the house.
The focus on the plate paid off early. Virtu earned a James Beard Foundation Best New Restaurant semifinalist nod in 2014 and a place on Esquire's Best New Restaurants list in its debut year. Osso cooks from a Mediterranean foundation with clear Italian roots and a global, seasonal point of view, so the menu changes constantly and rewards return visits.
The one constant is the charred octopus, a fan favorite since day one, served with lemon ceci, an arugula and fennel insalata, and Calabrian chile butter. Around it sit handmade pasta and market-driven entrees, plus a prix-fixe path for guests who want Osso to lead, moving from an amuse and starter through pasta, entree, and dessert with optional wine pairings. The wine program is run with sommelier Michael Cozzi and recognized with Wine Spectator's Best of Award of Excellence.
Dinner runs Tuesday through Saturday from 5 PM, and because the dining room is intimate the best tables move fast on weekends and during peak Scottsdale season.
