Octopus' Garden · Restaurant · Vancouver

A Kitsilano sushi counter working with weekly bluefin, ise ebi and BC uni, in the 2026 MICHELIN Guide.
Octopus' Garden is a sushi restaurant on Cornwall Avenue in Kitsilano, listed in the 2026 MICHELIN Guide, which calls it a long-running, quirky room with a devoted following and a hard-to-get reservation. The counter is led by Chef Sada.
The house presents itself through its ingredients rather than a mission statement, under the heading seasonal and fresh. It uses carefully selected sushi-oriented rice from Japan, cooked in a traditional okama pot, and sources a mix of seasonal and year-round product: bluefin tuna heads arriving every week at around 200 pounds each, Japanese beef from Kagoshima, Hida and Kumamoto served from sushi through to steak, and British Columbia oysters from Desolation Sound and Baynes Sound.
Foie gras from Quebec is served as nigiri. Ise ebi, wild spiny lobster from Mie prefecture, is described by the house as sweeter and softer than North American lobster, and sea urchin comes from both British Columbia and Hokkaido, with live uni available outside the summer months. The MICHELIN Guide praises quality fish at a very palatable price.
Service runs Monday and Thursday through Sunday, 4:30 PM to 9:30 PM. The guide describes the reservation as hard to get, so dates are worth taking well ahead of the week you want.
