Vancouver's one-Michelin-star Quebecois-French restaurant from chef-owner Jean-Christophe Poirier
St. Lawrence holds one Michelin star in the current Michelin Guide and won the Michelin Guide Vancouver Service Award in 2025. Chef and owner Jean-Christophe Poirier calls the food a marriage of classic French cuisine and Quebecois gastronomic identity, built on what he describes as rustic, haute country cooking.
The restaurant sits at 269 Powell Street in Vancouver's Downtown Eastside. Poirier, a Quebec native who trained under Normand Laprise at Toque! in Montreal, moved to Vancouver in 2004 and worked with Rob Feenie at Lumiere before opening St. Lawrence in 2017. The dining room is small and intimate, with 32 seats plus a chef's counter and a traditional bar.
The current menu is a four-course table d'hote that changes weekly with the season, with a choice of dishes at each course. A daily pate en croute is a recurring first-course option, and the oreilles de crisse, fried pork rinds tossed with maple syrup and Montreal spice, is offered as an a la carte addition. A la carte dining outside the tasting menu is available only to walk-in guests at the bar.
Reservations open roughly three months ahead, and walk-ins are welcome Tuesday through Thursday and Sunday, with Friday and Saturday reservations recommended. Cuchillo, the restaurant next door, is a good stop for a drink before the table is ready.
