Sushi Bar Maumi · Restaurant · Vancouver

A 17-seat Edomae nigiri counter on Robson Street, led by Chef Maumi Ozaki.
Sushi Bar Maumi is an Edomae sushi counter on Robson Street in Vancouver's West End, listed in the 2026 MICHELIN Guide. It is run as a family business by a husband and wife, with Chef Maumi Ozaki carrying more than 30 years of training and experience, and the house describes itself as the first in Vancouver to specialize in a counter omakase built solely on Edo-style nigiri.
The room welcomes 17 guests at a single seating on most days, and the MICHELIN Guide describes a counter-style space seating just under 20. Sushi is passed directly over the counter. The restaurant opened as a way of keeping the Japanese tradition of authentic sushi making alive and of introducing real sushi to people in Canada.
Fish is imported from Japan, and the kitchen decides per delivery whether each one is best served fresh or cured to draw out umami. The house describes the essence of Edo-style sushi as the careful preparation of each ingredient and the precise balance of rice and fish, building flavor through aging, marinating and curing, which it calls the aesthetic of subtraction. The daily omakase runs to roughly a dozen or more pieces, and the guide, which calls it a refreshingly affordable alternative to typical high-end omakase, singles out botan ebi with salt and murasaki uni.
Seatings run Monday, Tuesday and Friday from 7:00 PM, Saturday from 6:00 PM, and Sunday at midday. With 17 seats, dates fill quickly, and the counter is booked for one to four guests at a time.
