Aba is a Mediterranean restaurant with a California influence on the third floor of 302 N Green St in Fulton Market, with a menu built on Chef Partner CJ Jacobson's modern approach to Mediterranean cooking. The name means father in Hebrew. The draw is the setting as much as the food: a rooftop patio with fire pits by the lounge seating, and greenery throughout a space inspired by summer in the Mediterranean.
When the weather turns, the rooftop is enclosed for the season, with overhead heaters and blankets on request, so patio seating keeps going for dinner and weekend brunch through the Chicago winter. The cooking is built to share, moving from hummus, spreads, and mezze into kebabs and larger plates. Smoky garlic hummus and whipped feta are the openers here, the plates that hit the table before a group has fully settled in.
The shawarma-spiced skirt steak is the centerpiece order to pass around, and the creme brulee pie is the closer worth leaving room for. The bar pours rare wines and spirits from lesser-known Mediterranean regions. Come at golden hour and let the fire pits do the rest.
Aba serves weekday lunch from 11 AM, dinner nightly, and brunch on Saturday and Sunday from 10 AM. For celebrations, a semi-private Chef's Table seats groups of 9 to 12.
