From-scratch Italian with pastas made fresh daily and a year-round terrace in River North
Nonnina is an Italian eatery in River North, built on comforting food made from scratch and by hand, the way a nonna would make it. The idea is a neighborhood go-to with the welcome of a visit to grandma's house, for business dinners, celebrations and nights out with friends.
Pastas are made fresh daily, and they carry the menu. Rigatoni alla Vodka and a bucatini carbonara with crispy pancetta hold down the classics, pappardelle arrives under a braised short rib ragu, and the Mafalde Bucatini goes rich with black truffle, wild mushrooms and a porcini sauce. Squid ink linguini comes with lobster and shrimp, and the tortellini are filled with whipped ricotta.
Beyond the pasta, the kitchen turns out beef lasagna, chicken parmigiana, beef and veal meatballs in pomodoro, and a 16 oz. prime New York strip. The terrace has windows that open to let in fresh air and radiant heated floors, so it stays comfortable all year.
Nonnina serves lunch Monday through Friday from 11 AM to 3 PM and dinner from 3 PM, until 10 PM Monday through Thursday and 10:30 PM on Friday. Saturday runs from 11 AM to 10:30 PM, and the restaurant is closed Sunday. Nonnina Deli, just off the entry, offers sandwiches, pizza and salads on weekdays from 11 AM to 3 PM, and valet parking is available.
