Year-round 4th-floor rooftop lounge with a retractable roof at The Godfrey Hotel in River North
I|O Godfrey is the rooftop lounge on the 4th floor of The Godfrey Hotel in River North, and it stays open year-round thanks to a retractable roof. The hotel describes roughly 15,000 square feet of indoor and outdoor space with a two-level fire pit, water features and a video wall, set against open views of the skyline to the south. The roof opens on warm days and closes over the same space when the weather turns, and a sliding glass wall links the indoor bar to the outdoor one.
It is built for social energy, with weekend brunch, bottle service, weekday happy hour and a sound and lighting system set up for DJs and live music. After 7pm the lounge and rooftop are 21 and over. The kitchen turns out shareable plates from sushi rolls and flatbreads to Wagyu beef sliders and the Godfrey Burger, while the bar leans into approachable craft cocktails, spritzes and frozen drinks like the Frozen Hugo Spritz.
Reservations run through Tock and are recommended for weekends, brunch and group seating; brunch is served Saturday and Sunday from 11am to 2:30pm. Evening dress is smart and casual-elegant, with athletic wear and flip-flops discouraged. In the colder months the rooftop brings back its winter igloos, and the retractable roof keeps I|O open through the Chicago winter.
