Z Bar is The Peninsula Chicago's rooftop lounge, set on the hotel's sixth floor above Michigan Avenue on the Magnificent Mile. Its outdoor terrace looks out on the former John Hancock building, now 875 North Michigan Avenue, along with the historic Water Tower and the other landmarks of the avenue below.
The interiors are by the design firm Yabu Pushelberg, laid out as a progression of four indoor lounges, each with its own personality, plus a private salon with its own outdoor space. Scenic murals, a dramatic skylight, floor-to-ceiling windows and a portrait of a pug set the tone, with refined textures and bold graphic patterns throughout.
The concept is globally inspired: hand-crafted cocktails and a menu of small plates and shared platters drawn from cuisines around the world, served lounge-style. Doors open at 5 PM on Wednesday, Thursday and Sunday and at 4 PM on Friday and Saturday, and the lounge stays open until midnight. It is closed Monday and Tuesday.
Table reservations are made through Tock and run for 90 minutes.
