The Golden Steer is the oldest steakhouse in Las Vegas, open since 1958, and the closest thing the city has to a living piece of its own history. The Rat Pack came here after their shows in the late 1960s, and the corner they took over is still preserved as the Rat Pack section. Frank Sinatra and Elvis Presley both ate here, and the red leather booths are named in honor of icons like Sinatra and Marilyn Monroe. It is not a modern fine-dining room and does not try to be.
The menu is classic American steakhouse served the golden-era way, by tuxedoed servers. The Caesar salad is prepared at the table for two or more, and bananas Foster and cherries jubilee are finished in front of you in a small show of flame. A bone-in rib eye, prime rib in the English and Diamond Lil cuts, a tomahawk for two and the ship-and-shore dinners of filet with lobster tail or crab legs anchor the room, with an extensive wine list alongside.
The Golden Steer sits just off the Strip on Sahara Avenue, a short drive from the resort corridor and a world away from it in spirit.
