Avra Beverly Hills · Restaurant · Los Angeles

Greek seafood and charcoal-grilled whole fish sold by the pound, on North Beverly Drive since 2018.
Avra Estiatorio Beverly Hills serves Greek seafood, charcoal-grilled whole fish and Mediterranean mezze at 233 North Beverly Drive, inside the Golden Triangle. It opened in April 2018 as the group's first West Coast restaurant. Avra itself dates to 2000, and traces its cooking to Nafpaktos, the Greek town cofounder Nick Tsoulos came from. The kitchen states its own approach plainly: refined Greek cuisine, pure ingredients, simple preparations.
Whole fish is the center of the menu. It is flown in daily from Greece, Italy, Spain, Portugal, Florida and New Zealand, sold by the pound at market price, then charcoal grilled with olive oil, lemon, sea salt, saffron and mustard and served deboned. The menu suggests a pound per person. The olive oil comes from a single family farm in the Peloponnese, first harvest only.
Lavraki, the lean Mediterranean sea bass, and fagri, the red porgy the menu calls the king of the Aegean, both come off that by-the-pound list. The mezze that open a meal include grilled jumbo octopus with vidalia onions, capers and a red wine vinaigrette, Avra chips of crisp zucchini and eggplant with tzatziki, and saganaki of lightly fried kefalograviera. Among the plated mains is a Chilean sea bass souvlaki over roasted red pepper sauce.
The all-day menu runs from 11:30 AM to 10 PM Sunday through Thursday and to 11 PM on Friday and Saturday. Private dinners and larger celebrations are arranged through the group's private events team.
