Sushi Masuda took Vancouver's only new Michelin star in 2024, and its chef-owner won the Guide's Young Chef Award the same year, a lot of accolades for a six-seat counter most people walk right past.

Sushi Masuda is tucked into the corner of Oceanic Plaza at 1066 West Hastings, reached through glass doors near a print shop and deliberately low-key, in the downtown financial core steps from the waterfront and Gastown. Chef Yoji Masuda is a Vancouver native who apprenticed at the two-Michelin-star Sushi Yoshitake in Ginza before coming home.
