Chicago's only three-Michelin-star restaurant, No. 1 on North America's 50 Best 2026
Smyth sits at the peak of fine dining in Chicago, the work of husband-and-wife chefs John Shields and Karen Urie Shields in the West Loop. The couple bring 30 years of experience, including time at Alinea, Tru and Charlie Trotter's, to a deeply personal expression of North American cooking built on farmers, fishermen and makers at the height of their season.
The credentials are as high as American fine dining goes right now. Smyth holds three Michelin stars, making it Chicago's only three-star restaurant in the 2025 Guide, and it was ranked No. 1 on North America's 50 Best Restaurants 2026.
The room is warm and understated with an open kitchen at its heart, refined without ever tipping into stiff. The tasting menu is an ever-changing expression of peak-season product, so the composition of the night is always a little different, with Karen Urie Shields leading pastry. Wine Director Louis Fabbrini pours small-production, low-intervention wines, offered as the Smyth Pairing or a Reserve Pairing of rare bottlings and exceptional vintages.
Smyth is dinner only, Tuesday through Saturday, built around a fixed tasting menu: the Smyth Menu at $420 per person, about 2.5 to 3 hours, and the extended Chef's Menu at $550, about 3.5 hours. From November 5, 2026, Smyth offers a single experience, the extended Chef's Menu. Reservations are released on a rolling 90-day basis at 12:00 pm Central.
