Casa Playa is Chef Sarah Thompson's coastal Mexican restaurant inside Encore, next to the poker room and a few steps from Encore Beach Club. It opened in 2021 in the former Elio space, and in 2026 Thompson won the James Beard Award for Best Chef: Southwest. The room is all cascading marigolds, bold color and handcrafted detail, with a lounge that keeps the energy up through dinner.
The kitchen runs its own masa program, nixtamalizing heirloom corn in house for the tortillas. The fire-roasted salsa is made tableside, and the menu leans on seafood: kampachi with tomato dashi and finger lime, a lobster tostada, octopus a la plancha with coloradito mole and branzino zarandeado. The American wagyu short rib suadero is a signature, and the Casa Playa Surf and Turf (lobster, jumbo shrimp, carne asada, short rib suadero and pork belly al pastor) is built for the table. Dessert brings churros with Mexican chocolate and cajeta.
The bar is anchored by an extensive tequila and mezcal collection, poured as flights with pairing bites, alongside the Obsidian margarita with Casamigos Reposado, Ancho Reyes Verde and a black salt rim. Dinner runs nightly from 5 p.m., and on Fridays and Saturdays a late-night menu runs from 10:30 p.m. to 1 a.m. Dress is upscale casual.
