BOA Steakhouse sits at street level at 9200 Sunset Boulevard in West Hollywood, the room it opened in spring 2009 on the Sunset Strip. Sister steakhouses now run in Santa Monica, Manhattan Beach, Austin, Las Vegas and Napa Valley, but this is the Sunset address: a dim, stylish dining room and a bar and lounge worth arriving early for.
The beef program is built on Creekstone Farms. The 15-day dry-aged bone-in ribeye is the house workhorse, the Four Sixes Ranch Ribeye comes from a collaboration with Texas's 6666 Ranch, and Japanese A5 Wagyu is sold by the ounce from Kagoshima, Iwate and Hokkaido, with a flight of all three for comparing them. The tableside Caesar salad, made to what the house calls its legendary recipe, rounds out the classics.
The seafood side of the menu earns its place: spicy tuna cones topped with caviar and gold leaf, Hokkaido scallops baked in the shell with garlic butter, and lobster fra diavolo fired with Calabrian chili over hand-cut spaghetti. Sides run from truffle mashed potatoes to lobster mac n cheese.
Happy hour runs daily from 5 to 6:30pm in the bar and lounge, and Sunday is Wine Lover's Night, with half off bottles outside the Captain's List. Proper attire is required, so athletic wear, sleepwear, beachwear and slippers are out. Valet parking with validation is available.
