Craig's is a booth-lined dinner house on Melrose Ave in West Hollywood, opened in 2011 by Craig Susser after 23 years at Dan Tana's, where he made his name as maitre d'. Susser has said the room takes its cue from the classic old-school New York restaurants, and he built it around warm hospitality, accessible food and a gracious floor staff that makes regulars feel at home.
The lighting stays low, valet runs every night, and the room has been a Hollywood hangout since it opened. The cooking is classic American with Italian, Latin and French influences, and the menu is broad enough that everyone at the table finds something, vegans included.
Meldman's Honey Truffle Chicken, southern-fried and finished with truffle honey over a corn pancake and sauteed spinach, is the dish to send first-timers toward. Jerry Weintraub's Clam Show is a full pound of clams with herbs, chili flakes and breadcrumbs from the pasta list. For steak, the 8oz Filet Mignon comes with blue cheese and potato ravioli and herbed butter, or push further to the 40 Day Dry Aged Tomahawk. Chicken Parmigiana over spaghetti and Pigs in a Blanket round out the comfort-food case, and the Tinx Hot Girl Sundae closes it.
Dinner is served nightly from 5pm, until 10pm Sunday through Thursday and 11pm on Friday and Saturday. The events team handles private dinners and full buyouts for up to 180 guests. Reservations open 14 days in advance.
