Mr. Chow opened on North Camden Drive in Beverly Hills in 1974, six years after the first MR CHOW opened in London on Valentine's Day 1968. The kitchen serves authentic Beijing cuisine alongside the house's own original recipes, among them Chicken Satay, Ma Mignon and MR CHOW Noodles, created by Michael Chow with his chefs.
The room tells the story before you sit: black-and-white surroundings with Warhols on the walls, and a following that has spanned generations of clients from art, fashion, music and entertainment. Dinner runs every night from 5:30pm to 11:30pm.
Executive Chef Yi Jia Qian guides a kitchen built for communal, family-style ordering, with the host traditionally ordering for the table and the captains helping balance the meal. The Beijing Duck is the signature test. The MR CHOW Noodles are pulled by hand every night in full view of the room, a tradition kept since the house first opened, and you do not skip them.
Most tables order from the flexible prix-fixe menus, and the evening has its own ceremony: the Champagne trolley arrives at the start and a dessert selection at the end.
