Mr. Chow has held the same address on North Camden Drive since 1974, outlasting nearly every trend
Mr. Chow has held the same address on North Camden Drive since 1974, outlasting nearly every trend that tried to define Beverly Hills dining. Michael Chow - artist and aesthete - opened it six years after his original London debut, bringing Beijing-style Chinese cooking to the neighborhood before the concept had a name.
The room tells the story before you sit: black-and-white floors, white tablecloths, and walls hung with original work by Andy Warhol, Keith Haring, and Jean-Michel Basquiat, gifts from artists who ate here and chose to honor Michael with portraits. Keith Haring's 1986 pop-art painting of Mr. Chow as a green prawn inspired the kitchen to put green prawns on the menu, and that dish is still served.
