The Nice Guy · Los Angeles
There is no sign on the door at 401 N La Cienega. No marquee, no lit logo, nothing to announce what is inside. That is intentional. The Nice Guy has operated this way since the h.wood Group opened it in 2014, and the policy has never needed revisiting. You either have a reservation or you do not get in, and that is the whole point.
Once you are inside, the room makes sense immediately. Low candles, dim lamps, a bungalow-like layout that keeps tables close without feeling crowded. Live musicians work the room most nights - jazz sets that shift into something louder as the evening progresses. The design pulls from old-school Italian-American supper clubs: dark wood, warm leather, the sense that a few regulars own the best corner tables and always will.
