Aleli is the open-air grill three floors above Sinaloa 141 in Roma Norte, reached by a staircase that opens onto what the house calls a secret garden: low tables, heavy planting, and a charcoal and macadamia-wood grill working in plain view. Almost nothing escapes the fire. Meat, fish, vegetables and even the dessert pass over embers.
The kitchen answers to Oswaldo Oliva, who cooked at El Celler de Can Roca and spent years with Andoni Luis Aduriz at Mugaritz before coming home to Mexico. Aleli is his loose, unbuttoned counterpart to Lorea, the tasting-menu house on the ground floor of the same building, and the Michelin Guide has given it a Bib Gourmand for exactly that balance of ambition and price.
