Elena Reygadas wood oven all day in Condesa
Lardo is Elena Reygadas' all day restaurant in Condesa, on the corner of Agustin Melgar and Mazatlan. Reygadas, who also runs Rosetta, built it as the informal counterpart to that dining room: same standard of cooking, none of the ceremony. It has been packed more or less continuously since it opened, from the first breakfast service to the last table at night.
The wood burning oven does most of the work. Mornings bring egg dishes, croque madame, house baking and sandwiches; later the kitchen moves to small plates, cured meats and cheeses, salads, pasta, pizza and grilled dishes such as octopus with chorizo, squid, tuna and beef. Everything is built to be shared, and the desserts, tiramisu and sorbets among them, reflect the group's bakery pedigree.
