Anonimo sits on a quiet corner of Atlixco in Hipodromo Condesa and trades on discretion. The name is the whole argument: the point is not the chef or the plating but what happens between the people at the table, the room and the food, and the dining room is built to keep the attention there.
It opened during the pandemic and has since become one of the more sought after tables on the Condesa and Roma border. The kitchen belongs to Klaus Mayr, a chef who cooked at The French Laundry and El Celler de Can Roca before settling in Mexico City. What he makes here is Italian American: handmade pasta such as pappardelle in a lemon and butter emulsion with mint, zucchini and parmesan, a white pizza built on fresh cream, bacon, caramelized onion, thyme, mozzarella and honey, a fried pizza that has become a signature, and aged cuts from the grill.
Menus rotate with the seasons. The room is minimalist with industrial edges, low light and a glass fronted fridge holding well over a hundred natural wine labels, most of them small production bottles from growers across Europe and Mexico. Cocktails are made in house and the bar is a legitimate place to eat alone.
