San Angel Inn sits in a hacienda whose walls date to 1616, on a cobbled corner of San Angel across the street from the Diego Rivera and Frida Kahlo studio houses. It has been a restaurant since 13 June 1963, and very little about the choreography has changed: white linen, waiters in formal jackets, and a sequence of colonial patios and garden rooms that most guests photograph before they sit down.
The kitchen cooks Mexican classics alongside an international menu written for the same long-lunch audience it has served for six decades.
