Azul Historico · Restaurant · Mexico City
Regional Mexican in a 17th century palace courtyard
Azul Historico sits in the open courtyard of the Palacio de los Condes de Miravalle, a seventeenth century palace on Isabel la Catolica that now houses the Downtown hotel and a set of shops. Tables run under mature trees strung with lights, open to the sky, between the pedestrian stretches of Madero and 16 de Septiembre.
The restaurant belongs to chef Ricardo Munoz Zurita, the cook and writer behind the Azul group and one of the most cited authorities on regional Mexican cooking. The menu reads like a survey of that research: moles, regional stews, tamales and seafood from both coasts, presented with a contemporary fine dining finish rather than reinvented.
Service runs right through the day. Breakfast starts at nine in the morning, and lunch and dinner run from one in the afternoon unti
