Nayarit zarandeado on Avenida Masaryk
Campomar brings the Pacific coast of Nayarit to a glorieta in the middle of Avenida Presidente Masaryk. The family business started in 1979 as a roadside restaurant in Ixtlan del Rio, Nayarit, and has since grown into locations across Guadalajara, Monterrey, Puebla, Leon, Puerto Vallarta, Queretaro and Cabo San Lucas, in addition to Mexico City.
The signature is zarandeado, the Nayarit method of grilling fish and shellfish over charcoal with a chile and citrus marinade, finished with roasted pineapple, purple onion and a chipotle sauce. The kitchen applies it to whole fish, oysters, shrimp, robalo fillet, salmon, octopus and dorado, and it is what the room is known for on Masaryk.
The dining room is bright and energetic, smart enough for a client lunch and relaxed enough for a Sunday with family, with service that stays attentive without hovering. Beer, micheladas and a Pacific-leaning wine and cocktail list round out the table.
