Nayarit zarandeado on Avenida Masaryk
Campomar brings the Pacific coast of Nayarit to the middle of Avenida Presidente Masaryk. The family business started in 1979 in Ixtlan del Rio, where the grandfather worked the grilled fish, the women ran the kitchen and the men worked the tables, and it has since grown across Guadalajara, Monterrey, Puebla, Leon and Puerto Vallarta before reaching Polanco.
The signature is zarandeado, the Nayarit method of cooking fish over charcoal in a rack woven from mangrove branches after a long soak in adobo. It is what the room smells of and what most tables order, applied to whole fish and also to oysters, prawns, salmon and octopus. Around it sit the classics: prawn cocktails, octopus and mixed cocktails, prawns in garlic or coconut, fillet cooked to order and seared tuna.
