Casa Portuguesa has been the reference point for Portuguese cooking in Mexico City for more than two decades, tucked into a house on Avenida Emilio Castelar with a terrace that looks onto the park. The room is old school in the best sense: tiled accents, white tablecloths, career waiters and a pace that assumes you are staying for the afternoon.
Chef Maria da Silva built the place around her family's recipes, and bacalao is the spine of the menu. It arrives half a dozen ways, from the classic bacalhau Gomes de Sa to a bacalhau a la mexicana that folds the two countries together.
