Casa Portuguesa has been the reference point for Portuguese cooking in Mexico City for more than two decades, tucked into a house on Avenida Emilio Castelar with a terrace that looks onto the park. The room is old school in the best sense: tiled accents, white tablecloths, career waiters and a pace that assumes you are staying for the afternoon.
Chef Maria da Silva built the place around her family's recipes, and bacalao is the spine of the menu, served in several different preparations. Around it sit grilled sardines, polvo a lagareiro, seafood rice, and the francesinha sandwich that Porto claims as its own.
The cellar leans Portuguese, with vinho verde and Alentejo reds, and the kitchen opens early enough that breakfast here is a Polanco institution in its own right. Live fado singers work the dining room on Saturday nights, which is when the place is at its most Lisbon. Valet parking takes the pain out of the street.
