All-day Juarez cafe with a wine-forward evening menu
Cicatriz is the all-day cafe on Dinamarca that helped set the tone for what Colonia Juarez became. Opened by Scarlett and Jake Lindeman, an American pair who came to Mexico City from food writing and photography before turning to hospitality, the name is a nod to Scarlett's own nickname. The cafe works from nine in the morning until midnight every day of the week, sliding from coffee and breakfast into a wine bar evening without changing its character.
The kitchen keeps a small, changing day menu from 9am to 5pm and a different night menu from 6pm to midnight. The bar side leans into wine by the glass through the evening, and the counter turns out a rotating run of in-house desserts and pastries, from pumpkin pie to strawberry tart to cheesecake depending on the week.
The space has outdoor tables that are the first to go, a few minutes from Paseo de la Reforma and the Cuauhtemoc metro, which makes it a natural stop on a day spent moving between Colonia Juarez and Roma Norte. It has stayed a fixture of the block since it opened, even as the surrounding strip of Dinamarca filled in around it. Arrive off-peak for one of the outdoor tables.
