Comedor Jacinta is chef Edgar Nunez's Mexican dining room on Virgilio, at the corner of Emilio Castelar in the Polanquito pocket of Polanco. It holds a Bib Gourmand in the Michelin Guide Mexico. Nunez describes it plainly as a Mexican place, cool and with a bit of swagger, and the brief is home cooking, not reinvention: the food he grew up on, cooked properly.
That means guisados and comfort dishes rebuilt with restaurant technique and good sourcing. The card opens with a botanero section of corn based snacks, then moves to a dedicated molcajetes section. Regular orders include the callo de hacha with habanero and cucumber, tacos de tuetano and huachinango zarandeado, the whole grilled snapper that is the table dish. It is the sort of menu that reads like a family kitchen and eats like a professional one.
The room is casual by Polanco standards, tiled and warm, with a bar and a street facing terrace that works for long afternoons. It draws a neighborhood crowd at lunch and a louder, later one on Thursday through Saturday, when the kitchen runs to midnight. Sundays close early.
