Guzina Oaxaca is chef Alejandro Ruiz's embassy for Oaxacan cooking in Mexico City. The name means kitchen in Zapotec, and the premise is straightforward: bring endemic Oaxacan ingredients to Polanco and cook them with the same authorship Ruiz built at Casa Oaxaca.
Chef Carlos Galan runs the day-to-day kitchen, working through moles, masa-based antojitos and Oaxaca-style grilled meats and seafood, with a mezcal list behind the bar. Service starts at breakfast and runs straight through to late dinner, which makes it a rare Polanco room you can use for a nine in the morning meeting or an eleven at night mezcal.
The space is bright and airy, with a shaded terrace facing Presidente Masaryk that is the seat everyone asks for. It sits at the western end of the avenue near Socrates, and the crowd shifts from Polanco regulars at breakfast to a slower, longer table at night. Dress is casual, there are private rooms for groups, and valet parking is available.
