French classics in a Porfirian mansion
Les Moustaches has been the grand French restaurant of Mexico City for more than four decades, occupying a Porfirian mansion on Rio Sena a block off Paseo de la Reforma. It is old-money dining in the literal sense: parquet, drapery, silver, and a room that has hosted diplomats and the city's business establishment since the late 1970s.
The cooking is classical French with an eclectic streak, built on traditional method rather than reinvention. Plates regulars return for include the spinach salad finished tableside, a crisp pollo Kiev and the crujiente de durazno, backed by one of the deepest wine lists in the city. The house has collected the Five Star Diamond Award from the American Academy of Hospitality Sciences for years running.
